Reposting and quoting

Press Repost on a post to pass it on unchanged. It shows up in your friends' feeds and on your own profile, marked with your name and sorted by when you passed it on - and your Fediverse followers are told too. The button becomes Undo Repost, which takes it back.

The count beside the button adds reposts made here and boosts from other servers into one number. You can't repost your own post - your profile already carries it.

Quoting

Press Quote instead to pass a post on with something to say about it. It opens a composer with the original embedded, and needs words of your own above it - a quote with nothing added is what Repost is for. You can attach images to a quote the way you would any post, but not video or audio.

A quote post is a post like any other: it can be replied to, liked, and reported, and it travels to the Fediverse the same way yours always do.
