CDU

The Christlich Demokratische Union Deutschlands (CDU) is a major centre‑right political party in Germany, founded in 1945 and traditionally aligned with Christian‑democratic, liberal‑conservative and pro‑European positions. It has supplied several chancellors, including Konrad Adenauer, Helmut Kohl, Angela Merkel and, since 2025, Friedrich Merz, and governs in coalition with its Bavarian sister party, the CSU, at the federal level. The party operates across all sixteen German states and participates in state and local governments, often shaping legislation on economic, security, climate and social policy.
